Proceedings of 1st ISCAET https://www.inspirees.com/proceedings-of-1st-iscaet/ Tue, 19 Jan 2021 05:55:57 +0000 https://www.inspirees.com/?p=1496

Given the rapid social changes and economic development, China is in need of mental health care and psychotherapeutic interventions while it has to deal with several arising challenges. The various forms of creative arts therapy (including art therapy, dance/movement therapy, drama therapy, expressive arts therapy, and music therapy), have emerged as vital forces in the field of psychotherapy due to their uniqueness and effectiveness. At the same time, the fundamental role and social function of arts is now being re-discovered, re-evaluated, and re-defined. The  focus of our attention is on the improvement of  education implementing creative arts in China, which requires a  change in  people’s attitudes as well as innovations in this field. This entails further research both in theory and practice, improvement of the existing literature through numerous case studies, and experiments and development of personal viewpoints as a result of self-reflection. Additionally, the academic perspectives and the methodologies used for the applications of arts, education and therapy, in the context of western culture, are of great interest to researchers and practitioners in China.

In order to further stimulate the dialogue between the East and West, Art and Science, Education and Therapy, the 1st International Symposium of Creative Arts Education and Therapy was  held in Beijing, China, May 6-8, 2016. This event was  organized by Inspirees Institute, Creative Arts Education and Therapy – Eastern and Western Perspective (CAET journal) and the School of Art and Communication, Beijing Normal University, in collaboration with the Association of Creative Movement (Italy), Music Therapy Center/Central Conservatory of Music (China), Wuxi Mental Health Hospital and China Open University.

We hope that ISCAET, in cooperation with the CAET Journal, will provide a unique platform for dialogue and exchanges at an international level and will facilitate the collaboration across disciplines, regions, and cultures, aiming at refining the research level of this field in China.

Everybody Is a Body https://www.inspirees.com/everybody-is-a-body/ Mon, 18 Jan 2021 08:08:22 +0000 https://www.inspirees.com/?p=1426

Movement connects us all.  All of us are  moving, all of the time. The moving body is the foundation of human activity. In a world where technological advancement allows for instant global connections, we are becoming increasingly disembodied. This gives rise to “dis-ease” in our physical, emotional and intellectual selves. This book promotes increased awareness of the power and potential of human movement. It takes into account personal uniqueness, as well as the universal aspects of what it means to be human. This is a book for ‘every’ ‘body’. In order to experience life to its fullest, it is important to keep in touch with our moving selves. It is not a “how-to” book. We are not advocating a specific movement technique or practice. It is about re-discovering that you are a mover and that movement is not just an activity. Our movement is the expression of ourselves in the world.

The Chinese edition of Everybody is a Body is translated and published by Inspirees International Publishing. It is distributed in China via China Educational Book Import and Export Company. The book is used by many Chinese researchers and teachers in universities.

Introduction to Ethics and Multicultural Competence for Dance/Movement Therapists https://www.inspirees.com/introduction-to-ethics-and-multicultural-competence-for-dance-movement-therapists/ Sun, 19 Jan 2020 07:33:13 +0000 https://www.inspirees.com/?p=1552

Ethical and multicultural competency has become an essential skill for psychologists and therapists. Ethics not only provides guidance for the practice of therapists, standardizes the industry standards, but also more clearly protects the rights of therapists and avoids risks. As a body-based dance therapy, special issues such as physical contact make ethics more complex.

This course will introduce the concept of ethical practice for dance/movement therapists. Students will become familiar with the American Dance Therapy Code of Ethics as it relates to clinical practice. Students will examine cultural group identities and multicultural competence models, and will understand the relationship of ethical practice to cultural identity and issues.

This course is a required training module of Inspirees Institute for Dance/Movement Therapy Program.

Register online for the course and 1 credit hour.
