About Taiwan Book Market

Open-mindedness of its publishers is a major feature that marks Taiwan on the map as a small but productive market for publishing and distribution. Since the revision of copyright laws in the 1980s, the Taiwan book industry has expanded rapidly to become one of the major rights and import markets in Asia for US, UK and European titles.

Books published have seen a growth in humanities, literature, and novel categories, according to a report on Taiwan's 2017 publication trends by the National Central Library. A total of 4,987 publishing houses published 40,401 books in 2017, up slightly compared with a year earlier, showing that the publishing industry is climbing out from slumber, and is on its way to recovery.
